Everything in this life is a puzzle piece.

I came this morning to a coffee shop for a cup of hazelnut latte. Somehow I accidentally agreed to go with almond milk. And there was this thought at the back of my head, telling me that I shouldn’t have come here because it was too stupid to spend more than IDR 70k for a cup of coffee.

But I didn’t think about it too much.

I brought my cup to my seat. All ready to set up my laptop and work on something until I heard someone saying,

“Hi, I’m sorry. May I use your debit card?”

I looked up from my laptop. There was this lady in front of me, maybe her age is around 40-ish, still looked so young to me. She smiled and I waited for her to elaborate.

“I was about to purchase a tumbler but I couldn’t use my card. May I borrow yours? I will send the money to you,”

I was a bit skeptical at first, just like how I usually am to someone I have never met before. But this lady looked so warm and familiar. And I didn’t realize that her husband was already standing beside me, holding up his phone and ready to transfer the money.

“Sure, sure,” I smiled at them and I swear I saw her jump in excitement.

The tumbler was actually for her daughter. We chatted a little bit while waiting for me to finish the transaction at the cashier. Then they thanked me several times before I went back to my seat.

For a brief moment, I didn’t do anything. I thought about how there was no one else beside me and them in this coffee shop. I thought about how if I didn’t come here, there was a chance they didn’t get the tumbler. And if I didn’t buy this overpriced coffee (thank God it tasted amazing), I wouldn’t lend my card to strangers and experience these little moments in life.

Everything is indeed a puzzle piece.

And I look forward to finding every bit of it.
